Suspension
Whether a handling or tire wear condition exists, or the suspension has been removed for restoration, we have the factory tooling to test and confirm your vehicles suspension components are in good usable condition or whether they will need to be replaced. We offer the following component services;
Rear Trailing Arms, 1969-89 models
Arms are received and inspected for impact damage and or cracks
The rear parking brake and wheel bearings are removed
The Arm is mounted on the trailing arm jig (P295B) and checked for serviceability
If the arm is straight the arm is cleaned, (and painted for steel arms)
New trailing arm bushings and wheel bearings are installed
The parking brake assembly is overhauled and installed
Front A-arms
A-arms are received and inspected for impact damage or cracks
Ball joints are removed and the arms are checked for serviceability using P288B
A-arm bushings are inspected for wear*, (see note at the bottom of page)
Clean and paint A-arms
Install new Ball joints
Steering Rack
Inspect steering rack for damaged housings or mounting hardware
Disassemble rack and inspect components and repair and replace as required
Reassemble rack and set pre-loads
Install the rack on special tool P285 and install new inner tie rods and torque
Struts
Inspect struts for signs of impact damage
Install special tool P286B and check the stub axle condition
Install special tool P284B and check steering arm location
If all checks out struts are cleaned and painted to original color
Install and torque to specification a new strut cartridge
*From 1969 on the front a-arm bushings were vulcanized on to the arm at the factory, there are aftermarket bushings available for these arms however we have found that the replacement bushings to be noisy and inconsistent in the way that they fit. If the bushings are worn out it is best to replace the entire arm.
